Join BlackOnBlack Publishing at The Waiting Room on the 23rd of July and celebrate their first submissions Launch Party with a night of amazing art and great music!
The aim of BlackOnBlack Publishing is to create a community of people from all backgrounds, where BAME art and literature can be celebrated without the expectation of a certain topic, theme or style of artistry but instead with a focus on high quality, beautiful art and writing.
We spoke to Founder of the publishing house Joycelyn Longdon about her motivations and the driving factors towards the creation of BlackOnBlack, "I want to affect change and positivity not solely through publications but through immersive events and workshops", she tell us.
Events such as a 'Cosy Collage Workshop' is one of the many ideas that are in the works for BlackOnBlack where attendees can drink, eat snacks and make collages in a relaxed environment.
There will also be a live spoken word poetry performance from Hannah Osaguona. Hannah is a Poet, Actress and Writer from south London, of Nigerian heritage. She started writing poetry at the age of 13, finding it to be a good way to express herself. At 13, she attended Summer Arts College at The Albany, Deptford where she participated in a spoken word workshop and instantly fell in love. Hannah has performed at various venues with Apples and Snakes such as Albany, Richmix, and Roundhouse and has performed plays at venues such as Jermyn theatre, Ovalhouse, Courtyard theatre and Tramway. She aims to use her platform to shed light on various topics and be a voice for the unspoken.
The launch party will be the first of many submissions launches, where the works of chosen contributors of the online publication will be displayed. This one is special as it will also be the launch of the website itself! It is going to be a night of art, music, poetry performances and even FREE Supermalt. Attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase some of the Artists' works by pre-order or on the night.
